This has a quasi-surreal quality to it. I like it.

Is it snowing in the scene, or is much of the stone just wildly speckled in this image?

I see a couple of tourists still :p
The speckled-ness is a bit distracting, but I enjoy the composition.

The speckling (unfortunately ) is just dirt . from a hi rez scan ==from HP 5 film --- Never saw that speckling in a print from the darkroom .. but a quality scanner > will show all defects

Guess my water was not as clean as it needed to be -- had two filters in line BUT just not enough .. never appeared in a wet print from the darkroom ... tried rewashing ~~ no luck

I was chased out to the main street by the gendarme, shortly after -- I guess tripods are not allowed ?? In those days 1/30 was fast/normal shutter speed -- so tripods were a must.

I' m going to rewash a few times -- see if I can remove more speckles .. maybe use a more sophisticated tool > than cloning & clean this image up. It sold well in the galleries ... But I never printed past 11 inch ..

Wish you would had been there with a DSLR -- ISO 100 --could had made a 20 X 24 enlargement And I wish the film was speckle free Scanned film just is not like a 24 meg full chip DSLR -- maybe more like ISO 2000 with that digital camera and underexposed . Noise = grain ---

A little softness could go a long way, especially considering viewing distance.

I spent 3 months photographing in Paris with an 8x10, and never had a problem. You used to need a permit for a tripod anywhere, but now there are only problems with spaces like Pere Lachaise cemetery, and the Luxembourg Gardens, which belongs to the Senate, and the guardiens are always on the watch for illegal photography. A friend of mine spent months with a pinhole camera, sitting on a bench in the Luxembourg, but they got him and he had a huge hassle publishing a little book of his wonderful pictures. http://www.lesphotographes.com/old-site/2011/09/19/the-photographic-processes-of-ian-paterson/ You would have problems in the Palais Royal, where you photographed the Daniel Buren columns. He owns a print of mine. Small world.

I looked down at my rubber legs on my tripod > as skateboarders wiz by the columns ...trying to understand the gendarme~~ escorting me out of the Palais Royal ...

C'est la loi. There were no skateboards when the laws were written, only tripods.
