I think the photo is interesting and I like it well enough, but I don't see Lee Friedlander in it. Yes, there's the feel of maybe shooting from a car window, or other awkward angle, but that's not the essence of LF. What is missing is the quirky irony, humor, sarcasm, shame, or mirror holding that make Friedlander's work powerful social commentary. The technique might be reminiscent but the content isn't.

A "salute to" is not "a copy of" or even "in the style of". It's a salute.

I think it's a nice homage and, like Friedlander's work, does not so much make commentary as allow it. Right now in the USA we might read it as a comment on the USPS decision to drop Saturday delivery, for instance. Ten years from now, we'll probably see it as something else. The point is, we'll probably see it as something.

Yes, deep depth of field is different, but one of the things I like about this picture is how readable, rather than decretive, the out of focus background is.  Focus distinguishes the mailbox in the scene, but does not separate it from it.
