Lee polyester filters vs resin

I know the Lee polyester (which I guess means gel) filters are flimsy, but optically speaking, are they preferable to cheaper resin filters such as Hitech or Cokin?  (I've seen threads here discussing the relative merits of Lee vs Hitech vs other nds, but only in regard to the 10-stop variety - I'm looking at 1-3 stops.)

As soon as you get into discussion about the relative merits of different filter manufacturers, you are treading on dangerous ground.

I eventually succumbed to the temptation to buy a Lee filter kit and a few Lee filters for my Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens, which does not have a filter thread. The Lee kit cost more than 50% of the cost of the lens!!

I have absolutely no complaints about the Lee filters (apart from the cost) but please be 110% assured that, in terms of resultant image quality, they are no better than the range of £5 Chinese cheapies that I buy on eBay and use with all my other lenses.
