David: couldn't agree more. Joe works almost exclusively in 4x5 Velvia. Lots of dawn beach scenes with creamy gradients. Little or none of the 20 Standard Places.
I esp. agree about the printing quality. First colour photography book I've ever seen that does any sort of justice to 4x5. To me, the reproductions seem almost like contact prints pasted onto the page. The colours seem perfectly registered.

The title is the message really... I have just finished reading "First Light" by British landscape photographer Joe Cornish (ISBN 1 902538 24 2), and it is just stunning. Cornish must be one of the best landscape photographers working today. The book quality is great (especially at the price), the extensive commentary is totally free from the pretention and false modesty that often litters such books. And he even throws in a few side by side comparisons with older shots which give some encouragement to the likes of me. Strongly recommended.
