Chris,

Thanks for posting the LR5 video is ready.

Did see some of the behind the scenes shots via Facebook. Did not relize how big a production it was to put these videos together. Looking forward to getting this latest video.

Oh, it's a big production alright...maybe not on the scale of a commercial shoot because the only "crew" is Chris (although this time Kevin was a useful assistant). When we shoot, we shoot with a 3 camera setup, a two shot and a close up for both Mike and I. Then we do over the shoulder shots to capture movement in front of the screens...we also do screen capture movies and at least two sometimes three sources of audio. Mike and I are both miked and there's also wild sound captured.

It gets really hard for Chris because, well he's cameraman, audio engineer, DP, director and editor all at the same time.

This shoot was slightly refreshing because we actually lit it and shot it in the studio instead of doing it with available light.

Mike and I are the on camera talent but it's really Chris who is the star!

Jeff,

Thanks for posting the info about he behind the scenes. I find it pretty interesting. Maybe one day you all can do behind the scenes video on how all of you put this together. But anyway I am in the process of getting this latest video. As in the past I have always enjoyed them and find them very helpful. Thanks for doing them.

Best,

Yes, I have rapidly growing appreciation for just how bloody hard Chris works doing all the video stuff, not to mention just how good he is at what he does!

Take a bow Chris!

Many thanks for the kudos - much appreciated.

I should add though, that this was the first time that I have relied on an 'outside' editor - actually editors: Andy Resek & Ellen Castleberry from Chicago. They did a bang-up job and are responsible for getting the LR5 tutorial published in a timely manner.

I was 'busy' in Australia  Grin

Many thanks to Chris Barrett for recommending them.

Once again, gentlemen... excellent work.  And while one might think LR 5 a nominal update, the videos very well illustrate the obvious changes, the JDIs, and the real added value of LR 5.  Thanks.

Jeff, the catalog migration and smart previews bits alone were worth the price of admission.

Chris, nice production work.  Loved the tighter framing on "the talent" (LOL).

Well, some of us don't love HD without makeup artists!

HD is not old people friendly!!!

Next time I think I'll have Chris shoot through a gauze. (diffusion filter or fix it in post)

Chris, as a side note, I've like the edits I've seen pretty well...but I think Mike is getting more closeup time than I am. Who do I see about fixing that?

Nah... Jeff is like fine wine, he don't need no stinkin' soft focus.  He's grumpy, with a nice nose, hints of pepper and pleasant finish.   Grin

I have made a minor adjustment to the second video on Smart Previews which had a size encoding error. This likely did not affect most people, but is now corrected.

I have also updated the Table of Contents which also contained a minor error in the description of the Eric Chan video.

Didn't notice anything special…

Thanks again Chris for the outstanding job on this tutorial.

Again a great video - Seems a bit strange because I have the exact same Tommy Bahama shirt that Jeff has (although not in the same size).

It's all about quality vs quantity. Jeff's shirts are pretty damn spiffy so why change a good thing? Lol

I also totally enjoyed the LR5 videos. Well done! Smiley

Cheers!

I have also now replaced the Eric Chan video: LR5_09_EricChan.zip

There was some pixellating in the encoding of this video which was a challenge to remove in the over-the-shoulder shots.  Eric's Skype call on the right of frame was quite lo-res but the rest of the screen included the fine detail of the LR interface. When the scene changed back to Jeff & Michael, the encoder got all messed up. For the picky or those watching on a big screen, this new file will be an improvement.

I wasn't going to upgrade from LR4.5, but I did, mainly to justify getting the LR5 Tutorial (just kidding!).  I thoroughly enjoyed the videos, and adding Eric Chan again really energized and enlightened the discussion on the thinking behind the code.  The demos of the new features as well as the JDI stuff were clear, easy to grasp, and as usual, just entertaining enough to make the learning painless.

I am left with only one question:  I don't understand the use of the Reanalyze control in the Upright section.

Anyway, thank you Jeff, Michael, Chris and Eric for a great job!

Is this just $5 as I have bought all the LR4 videos ?

That's my reading of the pricing ? If so I will buy to see if I want to upgrade from 4.4 !
