I think the expression on the duck's face is great and like the photo a lot but think it might be improved by cropping out the other bird and the people.

Without doubt he/she's the boss. I'm pretty sure that there's a adequate punishment provided for calling king-goose a duck.

My bad.  I'm just a city guy -- not so good on these goose-duck distinctions, but I thought it looked kind of like the AFLAC duck.

Interesting shot. I like everything but the people in the background but without something there other than fence, you'd need more lead-out room to the left as it is their gazes which keep the image balanced. An odd dichotomy to be sure.

I would leave the crop as is, but I would burn in the section where the people are to make it less obtrusive -- the darker are would be balanced by the dark background on the right.  The swimming duck will provide enough counterbalance to the main one.  You can't go so dark so you can't see all the faces, so I might blur them some.  Or maybe I would try cloning them out altogether.

Thanks, Alan. I had in fact already done as you suggest, but I can pull the sliders further to the left, giving this. I think cloning out the faces would be more trouble than it's worth (and I do rather like the human presence).

I'm reluctant to crop, as I can't see a way to do it without losing balance.

Good shot of the goose but there is too much going on in the shot with the people and duck on the left.  They need to go.  I would crop in tighter if it was me.
