Living without a Printer

Hi,

I'm not sure if this OT, but I don't have a decent photo inkjet and would like to avoid buying one as I'd be unable to resist the lure of large Epson or Canon for which I have neither the $ nor the space.

As such, I'm hoping to get some advice on how to get good quality prints from my digital files!

The normal sources (I'm in Ottawa, Ontario) like Henry's, Ginn, Futureshop, cannot offer colour profiles for their printers, but from their comments, their colour space is restricted to sRGB. Works fine for snapshots are smaller prints, but not for something big that one might want to have framed.

If I call a commercial printer, they tell me that they don't deal with photographs.

If any of you get high-end printing done somewhere other than your homes, please let me know what my options might be.

Probably doesn't help but www.whcc.com does nice work.  srgb, tho.

If there is a COSTCO store near you, their prints are inexpensive and the profiles for the printers they use can be downloaded from DRYCREEK Photo, you can proof them in photoshop.

I use Lifetouch Professional (www.lifetouchprofessional.com) for the fine art prints I sell. The quality and service have always been top notch. I profiled my system using a Gretag Macbeth i1 Display 2 and everything comes back from Lifetouch looking like it does on my monitor.

Thanks for info. I checked their site, but I'm having hard time deciphering their price structure. I see these PC#, but no dollar amounts.

Can you give insight into what a typical 8x10, 11x14, or 16x20 would cost?

Go to HP website you will find a good price, for larg format printers, around $300.00
Or go tu ubid.com , are refurbished but good price.

This is just for straight photographic printing -- they have tons of options such as printing to canvase, Masonite backing, etc. All prices are Canadian. I find their turnaround time is usually no more than a week from the time I send in my photos thru their Web interface.

They use Epson large format printers.  They did an excellent job on 16x20 and 30x40.
