editing with lightroom

I have been unable to figure out how to edit out the bad pics from a shoot.  

Being able to select pics by rating, or non-rating, and deleting would be enough.  

Am I missing something?

Like to think of myself as a good photographer, but everytime I take more than one photo is a shoot it seems if at least 50 per cent of them are bad.  Like to get rid of them before anybody else sees them.  How to do that?

To reply to myself.  

A down and dirty way to cull the bad ones is to shift select those which do not satisfy then hit delete.  Works fine.  A little scary the first time the delete key is hit.

You could get rid of the deletes by sending them to the quick selections. Press "B" for each image you want marked and then at the top-left go to "Show Quick Selections" under the Photo Library section. In there, only the marked images to be deleted will show.
