Hi Folks,
I've taken a few movies with the 5d2 and am surprised that the resulting .MOV files are not included in LightRoom's "Supported files". (version 2.2)
The MOV files are not what I use the camera for, but the feature is used, in a similar fashon as the microphone button on the 1ds2 could add some notes during shooting (or more)
What workflow are folks using for the MOV files? both for pulling off the CF card, and any simple editing(I'm not going to buy finalcut ;-)
I'm manually moving the MOV files to another place, but that's LR's job!
Thanks,
Bruce
LR's library is crippled by it's fussiness about what files it acknowledges. You've just discovered one of the issues. I never use the LR downloader simply as it may miss video files shot by say my pocket camera. After nearly formatting a card with uncopied videos before realizing this gotcha, I stopped using LR in case I forget that not all files on cards are acceptable to LR.
I'm hoping that the 5DII and the D90 will help Adobe to realize how crippled LR is for photographers, the very people it is aimed at.
This stupidity about file formats has wider implications which basically means you cannot use LR as a DAM app, as a DAM app has to see all your relevent assets to be worthwhile and many of my still images are not allowed by LR [Duh!], let alone other files relevent to my photography, like text notes with names and location info, video footage of possible locations, audio for slideshows.
Whether LR can work on the files is irrelevent as they can simply be handed off to an external editor, just like PS is used for images at present. Though being able to view, label, rank, keyword etc is essential.

here here...
LR's database should be able to work with non LR editable files.
I'll ping Adobe about this. I'm sure they don't what folks defecting to photo mechanic or other downloaders.
Is bridge the answer? I had abandoned bridge and committed to LR. I thought the keywording and workflow of LR is easier.
I use Bridge alot as it is so fast and in many ways more efficient than LR, particularly when it comes to sorting files.
There seems to be a lot of resistance with regard to LR becoming more usuable as a DAM app.
Expect "LR's is for photographers and photographers don't use sound, make notes, take movies or anything like that as part of their job!!' and other such nonsense.

Nor CMYK files either.

I know this thread is a little old but I was wondering if there was any signs that this issue was being addressed? I only started using Lightroom last month and it's been a wonderful tool but without the ability to import .mov files which I produce from the 5DII as well as my archive of 360˚QTVR's it's a little annoying. I also found it won't import my old Imacon raw files which have a .fff suffix. I'm using 2.4 by the way.

Lightroom at least mentions that the .mov files were not imported. When I see that, I remember I took some movies, and put a sticky note right on the chip. Then I remember to separately download the .mov files manually.
It is not clear if I really WANT Lightroom to mess around with movies. (Although you CAN do some remarkable things by editing .mov files right in Photoshop CS4!.)

I use this slightly cumbersome workflow:
1. Copy the entire contents of the CF card to a uniquely named and logical directory (YYYMMDD_custom-text_###) the text is normally a place or event descriptor.
2. Use LR to import the RAW still files.
3. Use Bridge to review and move the .mov files to my editing drive.
