A friend is experimenting strange banding in some images in his Canon 1Ds MKIII. The phenomena does not appear in all images, and when it appears apparently it is not in any particular situation (both with the camera fresh or hot at the end of the same); it seems common to have it in complete series of pictures taken over the same subject. The shots were taken at ISO100.

I have analysed it and the banding appears in all the un-demosaiced RAW channels, so it seems originated in the camera hardware, perhaps the sensor readout:

The questions are:
1. What could that be and where does it come from?
2. It's a hardware problem of this particular unit and the camera can be taken to the technnical assistance? (it's still in guarantee and has the Canon Professional Services facilites)
