I'm looking for a freeware program that will batch process and convert my files (.tiff or CR2) into a "thumbnail file". When searching for a file I get bogged down waiting for my large files to load.

I know there is a program that does this, but, I can't find the right one. Does anyone else do this?

Thanks,
Doug

I doubt you want to actually convert your raw files into thumbnails. Perhaps what you want is a searchable index of thumbnails which allows you to very quickly identify your image and pull it up. There is such an application - works for Mac and Windows. The Mac version is CDFinder and the Windows version CDWinder. You can find it here CDFinder_CDWinder. Once you have catalogued your drives with this utility, to find any images, put all or part of the file name into its Search bar and it will pull up everything you have associated with that name in no time. If the storage device is active, you can click on a search result to open the file. If not active, say a shut-down external USB drive, you can simply switch on the drive and migrate to the result. Very effective. I've been using it for years. Requires Apple Quicktime (free).

If you simply want to be able to browse, visually, through lots of images, I strongly recommend BreezeBrowser Pro (Breeze Systems). Quite fast, powerful, and inexpensive.

Take a look at Picasa. It works well and is free.
