I have recently ordered a custom profile for Hahnemuhle Bamboo paper (for an epson 7900 printer).
I had used the generic Hahnemuhle profile for a while and since I know I will probably be printing a lot more on this paper, I thought a small investment in a custom profile was a good idea.

I received the custom profile yesterday, opened a target document, turned soft-proofing on with the new profile, and saw that all white areas turned slightly pink, whereas soft-proofing with the generic profile shows a yellow tint on white areas. The paper IS actually very warm and a bit yellow, so I'd have to say that the generic profile is more accurate about paper color.

The person that made me the custom profile is at a loss at explaining this and has offered to make me a new profile using a different calibration device (I don't know what he was using the first time). I thought I'd ask here if anyone had a clue why the soft-proofed paper color is totally wrong compared to the generic one. Thank you.

Thanks, I had not read it. Interesting read, but I print from CS3 in Windows Xp. Good to know, though. I hope these profiling issues will quickly be solved either by Apple, Epson or Adobe.

It's not difficult to make a bad profile. Many settings have to be correct, the nozzles must all be clear, the targets must be printed properly, and equipment sometimes goes bad. And for some profiling systems the operator has to pay attention for a long time while taking the readings...one mistake can throw off the profile. I assume you printed the targets properly without color management.

I have never seen a profile that introduces a background color, maybe the operator forgot to set his white point.

FWIW the two Hahn canvas profiles I have been testing are perfect for my 9880, that is very unusual for a canned profile and a credit to Hahnemuhle. I makes me think all recent Hahn profiles are probably pretty good. That is not true for any other canned canvas profile I have tried.

Messages on that issue are popping up everywhere it seems.
