Late Spring or early summer is the best time to photograph this location. There are many spots on the Beartooth Highway where you can pull off the road and photograph Pilot Peak above the Clarks Fork.
It is possible to get this spot in winter. It might produce some intriguing results if you care to give it a try.
TIMES
Early or late morning is the time to try this shot.. The Peak and everything else for that matter would, be harshly back lit in the later afternoon. I have seen great shots of afternoon lightning hitting Pilot Peak taken just after sunset. If the weather cooperates, you can give this a try.
