The Digital Negative

The Digital Negative Book By Jeff Schewe

With apologies to J.R.R. Tolkien, I know that the subtitle above is a bit over the top, but that’s OK. I really think that Jeff’s just-published book, The Digital Negative, really is that good. If you want to learn just about everything there is to know about handling and processing raw files in Adobe’s Lightroom, Camera Raw and Photoshop this is the place to go. Well, actually there is one other. If you learn better from video than reading then our Lighroom 4 Introduction and Advanced User Guide, with Michael Reichmann and Jeff Schewe, is an alternative. Jeff makes out either way.

I should state up-front, for those that may not be familiar with our relationship, that Jeff and I are friends, have collaborated on numerous LuLa training videos on Lightroom and printing, and have taught workshops and seminars together in many locales around the world, including Antarctica three times. Does that make me biased? Of course it does, so get over it.

But, obvious bias aside, this really is a fantastic book. Jeff is a consultant to and both an alpha and beta tester for Adobe, and few people know their products better. Just as importantly Jeff has been a world-class advertising and commercial photographer and isn’t just a tech geek – though he is that too.

I could write the usually summary of main points covered by the book, but Jeff has already done that on his book’s web site. Just be it enough said that in the past week since I received my copy I’ve learned several tricks and had a few insights that I didn’t know before, and I’ve been doing training alongside Jeff for many years. This guy knows his stuff!

So, the only thing left to say is that  The Digital Negative is now in bookstores everywhere, is available as a Kindle download, and can be ordered online from Amazon,Barnes & Noble and others.

Enjoy and learn. I know that I did.
